This week is batdump crazy. Amazing. The Upset the Rhythm fests his California. We'll have copies of Anti-Magic in hand. The distro got a bunch of incredible stuff (tik///tik's vinyl debut!), and its goes on and on. Meanwhile, the 4th has come and past but in my neighborhood people are still blowing stuff up all night long. I'm writing this the night before sending it out and sorta in dread of the Michael Jackson memorial going down here tomorrow. I'll just make sure not to leave the house.

2. Anti-Magic update

While the good news is that we'll have copies of Foot Village's "Anti Magic" on cd for these UTR shows, unfortunatly the vinyl version has been delayed due to the pressing plant running way behind. This means that the release party at Origami is being postponed. Both The Urxed and Foot Village will perform at the postponed event. We should have the new date in next weeks newsletter. Sorry about this folks!
Also, just got an email from Cristopher Cichocki that his music video for the actual song "Anti-Magic" is 99% done. Time allowing, we will debut it at the Upset The Rhythm showcase in LA!

Anni Rossi & Whitman collab 10"
This record is a collaboration between Anni Rossi (on 4AD) and Whitman that was recorded back in 2004 in small rooms in both Riverside and Valencia, California on a cassette four-track and until now has only been released as a very limited cd-r. This is a collection of seven songs that were written together by both artists; both lyrically and musically. However, it may not be what you’d expect to come from these two artists, as this record stands on it’s own and sounds very different from the previous work of either artist. The songs range anywhere from mellow ballads lead by guitar, viola and even piano, to upbeat chants driven by junkyard percussion.They come housed in white record sleeves with beautiful artwork by Kristina Collantes hand screened in burgundy ink.

After a series of CDrs and limited vinyl releases, Black Pus (Brian C of Lightning Bolt's solo insanity) releases its first pro pressed cd. While recent Black Pus releases showed the act moving into more and more song/pop/grunge territory, this disc is a return to the early compositional mood. Relentless and incredibly layered (you want to hear lots of drums? you got it.) and packaged in a ton of awesome handscreened art. A must.

If you can get your butt to NYC, LA, or San Fran, or maybe all of them, I highly recommend you mark your calendars right now! Do not forget about this incredible and monumental series of fests that are about to happen in July. The UK label Upset The Rhythm is coming to the states and doing 3 festivals. Despite being in the UK, this label has been the biggest supporter of what the press likes to call "The Smell Bands" and lots of other amazing Cali-DIY acts. The lineups are impressive to say the least.

While those of you in the UK/EU will be able to get Foot Village's new album on either vinyl or cd (they both have alternate tracks, so why not get both!) on July 6th, those in the US will have to wait till July 21st... that is, unless you can make it to LA on July 10th. That is because on July 10th Origami Vinyl will have a special release party just for the vinyl version of Anti-Magic. Foot Village will perform. The Urxed (Rob from High Places) will perform. Limited repackaged copies of Foot Village's OOP first album/10", World Fantasy (on Not Not Fun), will be available, and a bunch more.

I am going camping for the week, leaving on Monday morning. So no full newsletter this week. On the way out of town all outstanding orders and all the Tape Club mailings will be sent out though.

Just another one of those endlessly cloudy summer months here in LA... what? Well, just means more reason to stay in and bust booty on DBA stuff. At long last the last of the year 4 tape club tapes are done and packaged up and will ship out this week. People have asked if there will be a year 5. At this point, unfortunately there will not be. That said, the increase in handmade releases this year is the counterpoint to that and in July there will be another even huger wave of those! BTW - only about 4 copies left of the Blue Sabbath Black Fiji cdr from the May batch.

Just one new addition this week, but it is a must-have. A self-released CDr from Chicago's Fake Lake. Only 5 in stock, and I'm pretty sure no where else to get this other than if you live in Chicago. For those of you that have followed Deathbomb since the turn of the century, you'll remember a band called Djiin Teeth Fangs that did a split tapeclub tape with Quem Quaeritis and had an incredibly popular cdr in the old Neon Hates You distro. Fake Lake is Keelin frm DTF's new band. Their sound closes the gap between chicago style punk ala Coughs and the more organic Not Not Fun nature-drone sound. One of the most amazing bands Foot Village got to play with on last year's US tour, and when Fake Lake played in LA last week they were even better than before. Don't miss out!

We were very excited to be invited to participate in the official Sonic Youth record release party in LA today. It is at our new favorite record store, Origami. Here is the press release on it:

In celebration of their new album on Matador Records, The Eternal, Sonic Youth will take over our little record shop. For one day only, on June 9th, Origami Vinyl will become Sonic Youth's House of Shifting Plates and Ridiculous Juice, as dubbed by the band itself. Our wall of featured albums will display selections hand-picked by Thurston, Kim, Lee, Steve and Mark - ranging from Okkyung Lee to John Lennon - as well as a wide range of Sonic Youth and Sonic Youth related releases. The band has also invited their friends Pocahaunted and Shiloe to play sets at the store. Deathbomb Arc, a local label in Los Angeles that has released some Thurston Moore stuff on vinyl, gave us the following very limited edition goodies to sell in-store:

To anyone that is a subscriber to the DBA Tape club, please pardon the massive delay in this last shipment. Due to some band breakups, the last tape was hard to figure out. BUT now I have the music for it. It is a split between Teeth Mountain (who are on tour both supporting and as a part of Dan Deacon's huge band) and gdfx (a Teeth Mountain solo project). The other tape being sent out soon is a split between Jason Forrest and Hawnay Troof (covering November Rain!). International subscribers and new subscribers will be caught up soon as well. 2 7"s on Deathbomb got the Byron Coley treatment in the Feb issue of WIRE. Both are still in print:

Robin Williams On Fire - Northern California group of indeterminate size with extreme scramble potential that seems fully realised on this single. Four tracks blaze with a mix of randomness and precision that makes me think of both the Ruins and XBXRX, which may seem self-negating or oxymoronic, but if you take a listen you may well agree. Or not.

Warbler / Bromp Treb - Warbler is a highly whacked duo with roots in XBXRX and, like Hawney Troof (whose roots are similar), they herewith declare themselves to be dancefloor ready. I'm not sure I exactly applaud the premise, but the results are so doofy they're tough to growl about. Bromp Treb remains the insane solo project of Fat Worm Of Error's Neil Young. You might also try to dance to it. But I think you'd scramble yr ass.
