Hello Deathbomb Friends!

IF YOU WOULD LIKE THIS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER SENT TO YOUR EMAIL, PLEASE SIGN UP AT http://deathbombarc.com

This week is batdump crazy. Amazing. The Upset the Rhythm fests his California. We'll have copies of Anti-Magic in hand. The distro got a bunch of incredible stuff (tik///tik's vinyl debut!), and its goes on and on. Meanwhile, the 4th has come and past but in my neighborhood people are still blowing stuff up all night long. I'm writing this the night before sending it out and sorta in dread of the Michael Jackson memorial going down here tomorrow. I'll just make sure not to leave the house.

1. Upset The Rhythm in Cali
2. Anti-Magic update
3. High Castle West Coast Tour
4. New in the distro
5. websasters
6. But then again, I get to go to both of these, so why complain:

http://deathbombarc.com/utrusa.htm

PARTY NUMBER TWO: LOS ANGELES
presented in association with KXLU
Saturday July 11th @ The Smell
12:40 Lucky Dragons
12:00 Foot Village mp3
11:20 Gowns mp3
10:40 KIT mp3
10:00 Death Sentence: PANDA! mp3
-8:40 The Urxed (Rob from High Places) mp3
-9:20 Softboiled Eggies mp3
-8:00 Former Ghosts mp3
plus between band set by BARR mp3
DJs No Age & IVOR
247 S. Anti-Magic update
-------------------------
While the good news is that we'll have copies of Foot Village's "Anti Magic" on cd for these UTR shows, unfortunatly the vinyl version has been delayed due to the pressing plant running way behind. This means that the release party at Origami is being postponed. Both The Urxed and Foot Village will perform at the postponed event. We should have the new date in next weeks newsletter. Sorry about this folks!
Also, just got an email from Cristopher Cichocki that his music video for the actual song "Anti-Magic" is 99% done. Time allowing, we will debut it at the Upset The Rhythm showcase in LA!

3. High Castle West Coast Tour
---------------------------------
Erin from Child P has new band in the Unwound vein of things that is amazing. They are called High Castle. They have a 12" out now on Zum. Go see them!

July 7th Bakersfield @ The Vault
July 8th Sacramento @ The Fun Castle
July 9th Salem, OR @ The Off Center Cafe
July 10th Portland, OR @ Plan B
July 11th Olympia, WA @ Northern
July 12th Day off (could play somewhere though)
July 14th San Francisco, CA @ Hemlock Tavern
http://www.highcastle.tk

4. New in the distro
----------------------------
Anni Rossi & Whitman collab 10"
This record is a collaboration between Anni Rossi (on 4AD) and Whitman that was recorded back in 2004 in small rooms in both Riverside and Valencia, California on a cassette four-track and until now has only been released as a very limited cd-r. This is a collection of seven songs that were written together by both artists; both lyrically and musically. However, it may not be what you’d expect to come from these two artists, as this record stands on it’s own and sounds very different from the previous work of either artist. The songs range anywhere from mellow ballads lead by guitar, viola and even piano, to upbeat chants driven by junkyard percussion. They come housed in white record sleeves with beautiful artwork by Kristina Collantes hand screened in burgundy ink.
http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/anni-rossi-whitman-collab-10-w-download-card

Black Pus
zero: the ultimate beatoff cd
After a series of CDrs and limited vinyl releases, Black Pus (Brian C of Lightning Bolt's solo insanity) releases its first pro pressed cd. While recent Black Pus releases showed the act moving into more and more song/pop/grunge territory, this disc is a return to the early compositional mood. Relentless and incredibly layered (you want to hear lots of drums? you got it.) and packaged in a ton of awesome handscreened art. A must.
http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/black-pus-zero-ultimate-beatoff-cd

tik///tik / naomi split 7"
Long long overdue debut vinyl for THE tik///tik. Deathbomb and tik///tik have a long history that hopefully you have followed, but either way, now is the time to grab a part of history. Not noise. Not industrial. Not noiserock. Not glitchcore. Slightly pop vocal dreamboat. This will be gone instantly.
http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/naomi-tik-tik-split-7

5. websasters
-----------------
Sean Carnage, the man behind making monday night the best night for shows in LA, is interviewed in LA Record, he also does an downloadable music mix! http://larecord.com/interviews/2009/07/05/sean-carnage-noisy-and-gay-right-from-the-start/

Rose Quartz mp3 blog, which is up there with 20 Jazz Funk Greats, posted a track from Universal Studios Florida. That said, on the drive home yesterday I was so excited about the news in this weeks issue that I kept imagining writing it while driving. Maybe traffic is making me my imagination dull!

This week:

1. Upset The Rhythm is about to invade America!
2. Upset The Rhythm is about to invade America!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you can get your butt to NYC, LA, or San Fran, or maybe all of them, I highly recommend you mark your calendars right now! Do not forget about this incredible and monumental series of fests that are about to happen in July. The UK label Upset The Rhythm is coming to the states and doing 3 festivals. Despite being in the UK, this label has been the biggest supporter of what the press likes to call "The Smell Bands" and lots of other amazing Cali-DIY acts. That is because on July 10th Origami Vinyl will have a special release party just for the vinyl version of Anti-Magic. Foot Village will perform. The Urxed (Rob from High Places) will perform. Limited repackaged copies of Foot Village's OOP first album/10", World Fantasy (on Not Not Fun), will be available, and a bunch more.
http://origamimusic.blogspot.com/
http://www.last.fm/event/1108758
(and hey, if you dont live near here and are just like totally bummed to not get a copy early, maybe try emailing me... i'm happy to help)

3.
Hello Deathbomb Friends,

I am going camping for the week, leaving on Monday morning. So no full newsletter this week. On the way out of town all outstanding orders and all the Tape Club mailings will be sent out though.

After my vacation things start to go crazy around here though. Upset The Rhythm is visiting the US, the new Foot Village album drops, and a ton more!

So, till I'm back from sleeping in a hollow tree, here are some shows in LA we recommend for the coming week. Oh, and friend of DBA, Mr. MP Lockwood, wants to share his comics with you: http://www.dbmd-man.com

Wednesday June 17 :
at the Smell
http://thesmell.org
Captain Ahab
Electrocute
Baadd
Hawnay Troof (member of XBXRX and Kit from Oakland)
Michael Vidal (member of Abe Vigoda)

Saturday June 20
at the Smell
Foot Village
Our Brother The Native
Religious Girls
Voice on Tape

Sat June 20th
at the Hickey Underworld
http://www.myspace.com/hickeyunderworld
Vampire Pussy
Maria Garcia
Nial Morgan
Russian Reversal

Sunday June 21
at the Smell
Captain Ahab
Starfucker
Atole
Halloween Swim Team

Sunday, June 21st
at Echo Curio
http://echocurio.com
JANE AUSTEN + METAL ROUGE + PRAYOLA + EZRA BUCHLA

Bye bye!
Brian

Deathbomb Newsletter: Tue June 9th

Hello Deathbomb Friends,

IF YOU WOULD LIKE THIS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER SENT TO YOUR EMAIL, PLEASE SIGN UP AT http://deathbombarc.com

Just another one of those endlessly cloudy summer months here in LA... what? Well, just means more reason to stay in and bust booty on DBA stuff. At long last the last of the year 4 tape club tapes are done and packaged up and will ship out this week. People have asked if there will be a year 5. At this point, unfortunately there will not be. That said, the increase in handmade releases this year is the counterpoint to that and in July there will be another even huger wave of those! BTW - only about 4 copies left of the Blue Sabbath Black Fiji cdr from the May batch.

1. New in the distro
2. Sonic Youth, Origami Vinyl, Pocahaunted, & Deathbomb team up today!
3. "Free" new XBXRX album
4. Web Wandering
5. Upcoming LA shows

1. New in the distro
-------------------------------------
Just one new addition this week, but it is a must-have. A self-released CDr from Chicago's Fake Lake. Only 5 in stock, and I'm pretty sure no where else to get this other than if you live in Chicago. For those of you that have followed Deathbomb since the turn of the century, you'll remember a band called Djiin Teeth Fangs that did a split tapeclub tape with Quem Quaeritis and had an incredibly popular cdr in the old Neon Hates You distro. Fake Lake is Keelin frm DTF's new band. Their sound closes the gap between chicago style punk ala Coughs and the more organic Not Not Fun nature-drone sound. One of the most amazing bands Foot Village got to play with on last year's US tour, and when Fake Lake played in LA last week they were even better than before. Don't miss out!
http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/fake-lake-cdr

2. Sonic Youth, Origami Vinyl, Pocahaunted, & Deathbomb team up today!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We were very excited to be invited to participate in the official Sonic Youth record release party in LA today. It is at our new favorite record store, Origami. Here is the press release on it:

http://origamimusic.blogspot.com/2009/06/sonic-youth-to-takeover-origami-vinyl.html

In celebration of their new album on Matador Records, The Eternal, Sonic Youth will take over our little record shop. For one day only, on June 9th, Origami Vinyl will become Sonic Youth's House of Shifting Plates and Ridiculous Juice, as dubbed by the band itself. Our wall of featured albums will display selections hand-picked by Thurston, Kim, Lee, Steve and Mark - ranging from Okkyung Lee to John Lennon - as well as a wide range of Sonic Youth and Sonic Youth related releases. The band has also invited their friends Pocahaunted and Shiloe to play sets at the store. Deathbomb Arc, a local label in Los Angeles that has released some Thurston Moore stuff on vinyl, gave us the following very limited edition goodies to sell in-store:

Gang Wizard / Algebrassiere
split 12"
originally co-released between Deathbomb Arc & Ecstatic Peace
Test pressings packaged in exclusive handmade art by Melissa
Kinsman.
From 5:30 till 6:30 on June 9th, Melissa will be in-store to
personalize the art on these for the lucky buyers.
limited: 2 copies / $25

Thurston Moore / Men Who Can't Love
split 12"
originally released as a part of the Thrash Sabbatical box set by
Deathbomb Arc
Overrun of this record from the box set has been hiding at DBA HQ for
some time.
Now repackaged in exclusive handmade art by Josh Taylor.
limited: 13 copies / $15

Origami has also teamed up with local artist, Seizer, to create a special limited edition silkscreen print of the art below. The art poster will be limited to 50 copies, hand numbered and signed, available for pre-order the day of the event.

As if that weren't enough, Two Boots Pizza will create a special "Eternal" pie that resembles the album's artwork. Free slices of this pie will be given away during the event at Origami. Phil, owner of Two Boots and long-time friend of the band, is excited to be a part of the band's new release.

The details of the event are:
Sonic Youth's House of Shifting Plates and Ridiculous Juice
Tuesday, June 9th from 5.30pm - 9pm
with live performances by Pocahaunted and Shiloe
Limited edition goodies provided by Deathbomb Arc and Not Not Fun
Free "Eternal" Pizza slices provided by Two Boots
+ other SPECIAL surprises
1816 W. Web Wandering
---------------------------------------
Tiny Mix Tapes helped announce the upcoming Foot Village album, "Anti-Magic" last week. This includes both the actual release dates and the track listing for the CD version.
http://www.tinymixtapes.com/It-Takes-a-Village-of-Feet-to-Hold

Gully of Noise interviewed me re: Foot Village. He bought a bunch of Taiwanese vinyl from the 60's, 70's and 80's while he was there. He then distilled it down to his favorite tracks and posted them for you to download! http://coolbreakfast.blogspot.com/2009/06/special-guest-mix-by-david-b.html

5. It is difficult for me to keep up with everything going on in LA, esp stuff not on the usual venues. Some more ways to stay online
----------------------------------------------------------
Drop Dead magazine posted their new issue online for free, it includes an article on one of our favorites, Nero's Day At Disneyland. http://dropdeadmagazine.com/

I did a very brief interview with Uphill Gardeners for Thee Outernet. They were one of my favorite bands in LA in the mid 90s. olFactory will be releasing a rarities album by them very soon: http://theeouternet.blogspot.com/2009/05/uphill-gardners.html

3. Tapeclub update
-------------------------------------
Subscribers to year 4 of the tape club I'm sure are wondering where their last shipment of tapes are. Due to busyness, band cancellations, and a million other boring excuses, the tapes were late, but now they are all done and copied. They will be sent out early next week. If you are missing anything after getting this last shipment, please let me know! This should be the mailing to complete your box set. Thanks for your patience!

4. Foot Village leaks from Anti-Magic
---------------------------------------------------------------
Lets get right to it: Upset the Rhythm has added a band page for Foot Village to their site. It has an awesome new bio, locks down the release date for Anti-Magic as July 09, but most importantly has an mp3 of the track "T.A.K.E." http://www.upsettherhythm.co.uk/footvillage.shtml
ALSO, Citizen Rowan has been hard at work on the Foot Village website. Although there still are some small changes to make, you should take a look because there is lots of awesome content on it including a library of all the "Chicken and Cheese 2" covers people did for the collage at the end of Anti-Magic. Dozens of free mp3s for you from the likes of Death Sentence: PANDA!, Tussle, Robert Inhuman (of Realicide), tik///tik and many many more.
The site is at http://footvillage.org
and the library is at: http://footvillage.org/music/anti-magic-friends

2. Captain Ahab's "The End of Irony"
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The followup to Captain Ahab's "After The Rain My Heart Still Dreams" is much closer to coming out than we though. I talked with Jonathan the other day and he said that most of it is done. He is talking with some of his "team" this week and we will have a release date locked down very soon. In the meantime, a track from "The End of Irony" was leaked thanks to Cock Rock Disco (who will be doing the EU version of the album): http://cockrockdisco.com/CRD2/albumpages/Crockp3-016-MoCRD.html

3. Discounted presale on the may batch has begun. Check it out here: http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/deathbomb-arc-may-2009-batch-presale

And this is what you will get:
DBA097
BLUE SABBATH BLACK FIJI
cdr
not to be confused with BSBcheer, this freakout noiserock duo that is heavy heavy on the noise side of thangs, way bright and neon, way explosive, and one of the most celebratory noise declarations we've ever heard around here

DBA099
LEMON BEAR
light-bright cdr
although most widely known for his collaboration with inca ore on 5rc, his "solo" work which stems equally from his experience as a trained avant-garde composer and diy noise peers and will make your summer turn a brighter shade of chilled

DBA101
SPIRIT DUPLICATOR
cdr
jake anderson of gang wizard / yuma nora strikes again, now know as spirit duplicator (after years of work under celesteville) small, brittle, passionate, and atonal. perfect lo-fi gems from someone that has been making them since it wasn't cool

2. Origami Vinyl store in Los Angeles
-------------------------------------------------------------
An amazing new store has opened in LA. It is a record store that only carries new vinyl. Hands down the most amazing record store I've ever been to anywhere on the planet. No kidding. Plus Neil who runs it is a total gentleman AND loves Jesus Lizard. I just went by this week and stocked them up with a bunch of Deathbomb vinyl, including some sold out stuff like the Robin Williams on Fire 7", the Thrash Sabbatical box set, and a ton more! Everyone should check this place out! http://www.origamiorigami.com/

3. my new 20 Jazz Funk Greats / Thee Outernet articles
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My newest article in 20 Jazz Funk Greats has exclusive mp3 leaks from Social Junk, Realicide, and Child Pornography: http://www.20jazzfunkgreats.co.uk/wordpress/2009/04/15/brians-cali-trip-slimer-fetish/
My newest article in Thee Outernet has a ton of links for outsider hardcore acts: http://theeouternet.blogspot.com/2009/04/outsider-hardcore.html

4. Tape Club update
---------------------------------------
To anyone that is a subscriber to the DBA Tape club, please pardon the massive delay in this last shipment. Due to some band breakups, the last tape was hard to figure out. BUT now I have the music for it. It is a split between Teeth Mountain (who are on tour both supporting and as a part of Dan Deacon's huge band) and gdfx (a Teeth Mountain solo project). The other tape being sent out soon is a split between Jason Forrest and Hawnay Troof (covering November Rain!). International subscribers and new subscribers will be caught up soon as well. Sorry for the delay! If you are concerned about your tapes, feel free to write!

5. When they showed up with copies of the first 100% legit and mindblowing album from their band Realicide, it was instantly determined that this weeks newsletter would be centered around their amazing take on gabber and punk. For those of you who love hardcore music, this is xxxmas day.

1. Realicide's first troo album!!!
2. Realicide US tour
3. Both CD and LP versions come with a 24 page giant booklet containing all the lyrics, essays on all the songs, and tons of art and photos. The cd version has a whopping 31 bonus tracks.
Get it here: http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/realicide-resisting-the-viral-self-12-cd

2.
Deathbomb Newsletter: NEW RELEASE DAY!

Hello Deathbomb Friends!

IF YOU WOULD LIKE THIS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER SENT TO YOUR EMAIL, PLEASE SIGN UP AT http://deathbombarc.com

It is that day that no record label would make sense without: the day that new releases come out! This time around all in the DIY style. Two cassettes and a cdr. All some beautiful rough gems that are at the core of where Deathbomb comes from. A bunch of new acts local to Los Angeles and a band from London that I met while on the Foot Village tour this past fall. These are all highly recommended.

1. DBA March Batch
2. Foot Village's Fuck the Future II now on iTunes
3. Webertained and other press
4. Upcoming LA shows
5. Upcoming Phoenix shows
6. Milwaukee represents at SXSW

1. DBA March Batch
------------------------------------------
DBA096
PUPPY DOG iridescent blood cassette
http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/puppy-dog-iridescent-blood-cassette
Puppy Dog's band of acoustic pop punk, while in line with acts like A++ and Foot Village, is distinctly more delicate. Xylophone and brutally minimal drums feather their way through reverb laden screams that beckon like a lighthouse to a sailor. There shall be no crashing on the rocks here. These 3 ladies know how to treat you right, especially if you're a punk looking for a little tenderness tonight.

DBA095
PUPPY DOG / E&E / KID INFINITY / KAWAIIETLY PLEASE 4way split cdr
http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/puppy-dog-e-e-kid-infinity-kawaiietly-please-4way-split-cdr
puppy dog, e&e, kid infinity, kawaiietly please contribute 10 min each towards a comp of deathbomb's favorite new los angeles acts from 2008. noise, pop, dance, and avant all represent. a great sampler to know what is NEW NEW NEW in los angeles.
silkscreened art by natalie klibanow.

DBA013
BITCHES cassette
http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/bitches-cassette
London's youngest, funest noise rock couple, Blake and Staz, know how to tear it up like Godheadsilo, keep it bouncy like Mika Miko, and are catchy as Katy Perry. So what are you gonna do when they rip a hole in your stereo all Aerosmith meets RUN D M "C U ON THE FUCKING FLOOR PUNK!" style???

or get the whole batch at discount: http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/march-2009-batch-presale

2. Foot Village's Fuck the Future II now on iTunes
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Foot Village's most recent collection of singles, vinyl-only releases, and other out of print gems, Fuck the Future II, is now available on iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=307211826&s=143441

3. Webertained and other press
-------------------------------------------------------
2 7"s on Deathbomb got the Byron Coley treatment in the Feb issue of WIRE. Both are still in print:

Robin Williams On Fire - Northern California group of indeterminate size with extreme scramble potential that seems fully realised on this single. Four tracks blaze with a mix of randomness and precision that makes me think of both the Ruins and XBXRX, which may seem self-negating or oxymoronic, but if you take a listen you may well agree. Or not.
http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/robin-williams-on-fire-jungle-gym-of-crucifixes-7

Warbler / Bromp Treb - Warbler is a highly whacked duo with roots in XBXRX and, like Hawney Troof (whose roots are similar), they herewith declare themselves to be dancefloor ready. I'm not sure I exactly applaud the premise, but the results are so doofy they're tough to growl about. Bromp Treb remains the insane solo project of Fat Worm Of Error's Neil Young. You might also try to dance to it. But I think you'd scramble yr ass.
http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/warber-bromp-treb-split-7

The Baltimore City Paper reviewed a comp featuring Gang Wizard, Sword Heaven, Godwilling, New Flesh, and many more: http://www.citypaper.com/music/review.asp?rid=14544
available in our distro: http://deathbombarc.bigcartel.com/product/various-artists-human-conduct-detox-program-cdr

The out-of-print 4th Rose For Bohdan album "Decoration Monster" is available for download FREE here: http://magikcorpse.blogspot.com/2009/03/rose-for-bohdan-decoration-monster-and.html

4.
